The Tutoring center at UHart was extremely warm and welcoming. Scheduling was simple and the PSW leaders for biology helped me understand the content outside of class!

Frequently Asked Questions

Tutoring Services is located on the lower level of the Harrison Library. When you arrive to the lobby of the library, go around the staircase and take the stairs down one level. Take a left and you're there!

Log in to your Compass account through xf60.gxitma.net or MyUHart and follow the instructions below:

  1. Log into Compass (to get to Compass, go to the gxitma.net homepage, scroll over “MyUhart” and then click “Compass”; Use your email and password to log in)

  2. Click the three horizontal lines in the top left corner

  3. Click “My Success Network” from the dropdown menu that appears

  4. Click “Academic Tutoring”

  5. Scroll through the list of tutors (you’ll see them listed as “Team Members”) and identify any who are tutoring for your class.

  6. Click the tutor’s name, then click “Schedule Appointment,” then “Tutoring,” and then click “Add a Course” and select the course you’d like help with.

  7. Click “Confirm” to complete the scheduling process.

Almost all tutoring happens at the lower level of the Harrison Libraries. You will go to the Tutoring Services Kiosk, which is located next to the Allen Library. There, you will be signed in and meet with your tutor.

If there is no staff member at the kiosk, your tutor should be waiting for you in the same location (lower level of the Harrison Libraries) – don’t be afraid to use the Academic Tutoring Service on Compass to find your tutor’s picture!

If you have booked tutoring for a performance arts course, you may have a different meeting space, please ensure you check Compass for a tutor’s office location.

Email ctctutor@gxitma.net and let us know the class you need help in. We may not have a tutor for the course you need listed, but we will work to assess your needs and fill needed positions. In the meantime, work with your professor in office hours for supplemental support.

Not always. You should first check Drop-In hours (listed here) to see when a tutor will be available to assist you without an appointment. If drop-in hours are not offered today for your subject, or they conflict with your schedule, you will need to make a tutoring appointment on Compass for a future date.

In the meantime, try and attend professor office hours, and work with your peers for additional support.

Once you arrive to the library, head to L106, which is in the lower level of the library, across from the tutoring services kiosk. Stop at the circulation desk if you need help finding us.

First review your tutoring appointment to ensure you have the right date, time and location. If your tutor is not present at the scheduled date, time and location, please email ctctutor@gxitma.net immediately for assistance and next steps.

Tutors can work with a student for a maximum of 1 hour a day. It is not acceptable to book multiple appointments with the same tutor in one day. If you need additional help in a subject – please book an appointment with a different tutor to continue your academic support.

Email ctctutor@gxitma.net so we can assess your need and provide you with the appropriate support.

Interested in Additional Support for Introductory Courses?

Contact Tutoring Services at ctctutor@gxitma.net for information on Peer-Support Workshops (PSWs). PSWs are small group review sessions led by top students offering support for introductory math, science, and psychology courses.

Common Questions about Peer-Support Workshops (PSWs)

You will need your advisor’s permission to add a PSW. (If you’re a first-year student, this will be your First-Year Advisor in the Center for Student Success.) Contact your advisor to request adding a PSW to your schedule. Academic advisors can forward requests for adding PSWs to either css@gxitma.net or ctctutor@gxitma.net.

Yes, if you add the PSW within the first six weeks of the semester, you can earn one academic credit. No credit will be awarded for students who begin attending a PSW after the first six weeks.

PSWs are taken Pass/No Pass. As long as you attend your PSW regularly, you will earn a Pass (P).

To earn credit for taking a PSW, you’ll need to add it within the first six weeks of the semester. Students may attend, but not earn credit for, PSWs after the first six weeks.

Interested in Being A Preceptor?

Preceptors work within introductory and/or critical gateway courses and can assist with a variety of things such as: leading discussions, running writing workshops, leading a lab section, overseeing a group project, running an exam review session and offering the instructor feedback around creating a classroom environment supportive of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and more.

If you are a sophomore, junior, or senior and are interested in an opportunity such as this, please connect with the faculty member you would like to precept for or the Center for Student Success (CSS) via email: ctctutor@gxitma.net.
